The Leeds Jewish Representative Council is the central communal body in Leeds. They represent all the other organisations who are affiliated with it, which currently number 80. They have the following objectives:
With no specific social, religious, political or educational agenda, they are best placed to be the face of the Jewish community. This means that LJRC can help mediate with intra-community issues but also to speak for the community to those outside it. They do this through participation in interfaith groups, provide speakers for school assemblies, lobby politicians on the community's behalf, provide statements to the media and provide links to national Jewish organisations.
Also, the “community development project” - part of which includes the setting up of this website - falls under the auspices of LJRC. Taking a bird's-eye view of the community allows it to co-ordinate projects, as part of strategic plans for the future of the community in Leeds.
